This is a dog with great powers. She has a form of ESP that senses things (especially other dogs or animals) that she can't see, smell, hear or detect by any other normal senses. She just "knows" where they are. When she was about 1 year old, her former owners just moved and left her on the street. She lived as a street dog and raided everyone's yards. I later found out people had been taking her for "rides" to attempt to get rid of her. One guy took her to work with him and let her out about 8 miles away. She was back before he got home from work that night. They took her over 20 miles away and she always came back even through busy build up city streets. She watches the road when in the car and if you are on a familiar route she shows great alarm if you turn off on to an strange street. She knows the streets for miles around. I am still trying to figure out how she knows things and senses other animals. If you tell her a word that means something in dog world, she immediately learns it. Words that other dogs don't know. The one that tickles me is Water. Goes to her water bowl. If the water bowl is empty will come and tell you, wags the body, no doubt what she wants. Will respond to certain words spoken on TV. Saw birds on TV and was convinced they were real but in a box. Tried to sneak around back and find an opening to get at them. Ignores TV generally but will watch if other animals are on, especially birds or other dogs. She understands the concept of ownership. Never takes any thing not hers. She will never touch food left on a low coffee table, even if I am not there. Loves to chew on empty bottles, but only when she has been told it is her's. Never chews on anything not given to her. Once given to her, she recognizes it as belong to her, even days later. I have never seen another dog with these characteristics. It is very clear she can remember as humans relate to remembering, something not normally credited to dogs. |
